Southeast Asia – Part 3: Georgetown, Malaysia
We arrived in Butterworth super early in the morning after a terribly long bus ride. The city is the gateway to the island Penang, where we were headed. After waiting for around two hours, we could finally board the first ferry, which took us to Georgetown in roughly 15 minutes. We walked to our hostel, the House of Journey, and waited for another few hours. Luckily, we were allowed to check in early in the morning and sleep for a bit. The hostel was one of the nicest and most luxurious ones I’ve ever been to (super fancy showers!)
The following days, we explored the city and ate a lot (as we always do). The city was packed with artsy cafés, boutique stores and street art – not very typical for Malaysia. Apparently, the government hired a bunch of street artists to paint the city’s walls. A bit weird, but it looked nice nevertheless. Oh, and there’s a lot of good food in Georgetown.
