Kenya + Zanzibar

Kenya + Zanzibar

Last October, we took a trip of about 3.5 weeks to Kenya and added a week on the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar. Part of the trip was for sourcing coffee resp. visiting coffee producers I work with at Drip Roasters. I also just published a blog post about the coffee-related part of this trip with more words and less pictures. After having spent some time in the coffee region around Mount Kenya, we went on a 3 day safari tour in Maasai Mara. Our next stop was the beautiful island of Lamu, just off the Kenyan coast, where we also visited a coffee school project of the exporter we work with at Drip. Our trip led us down the coast […]

Costa Rica & Panama

Costa Rica & Panama

This was the first longer trip for Seraina and myself after the pandemic. We had planned it for quite a while, but due to possible changes due to the virus and because of visa issue, we literally didn’t know if we could take the trip until the day we left. Costa Rica and Panama had both been on our list both for the nature and beaches as well as for coffee. Before arriving in these countries, however, we spent some time in cold New York City. After a few days, it was time to fly to Costa Rica. The land of pura vida offered beautiful landscapes, beaches and lots of animals. We started in the North and, after visiting the […]

Morocco

Morocco

This was the first time I visited Morocco and it was pretty much the first time for me in Africa (besides a trip to Tunisia as a little child). We spent a full week in Marrakech and one day in Essaouira by the coast. The food was excellent (and plates always too big – or too many), the city was beautiful and a little chaotic. We stayed at Riad 42, which was absolutely lovely – the rooms, the rooftop and the whole space was beautiful, the staff super nice and helpful and the breakfast (and dinner) they make was delicious. We would love to go back anytime.

Marseille & Lyon

Marseille & Lyon

Marseille was a first in our adult lives. We had wanted to go for some time but for some reason, it had never been at the top of our lists. When the pandemic dictated us not to fly a whole lot, we finally took the trip. And we weren’t disappointed. The city’s architecture, its harbor, and «La Cité Radieuse» by the Swiss-French architect Corbusier were well worth the trip, not to mention the abundance of great restaurants, wine bars and discovering some new specialty coffee shops.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik

Just like most people, we did not fly for quite some time after the pandemic hit. We went abroad by train twice last year (Milan, Hamburg). This summer, though, we were on our first flight in more than a year and a half. We flew to Sarajevo, rented a car and drove to Dubrovnik, Croatia. We returned to Bosnia a few days later – my next post will be about that.

2020

2020

Later than ever, here’s my last year’s flashback in a few pictures. Didn’t take many photos, hardly travelled at all. A weird year, and a tough one to open a café, which is what we did. Previously only roasting coffee as Drip Roasters, we opened the café in March of 2020. Despite a difficult first year, we’re happy the café is still around. We have also managed to grow as a roastery and move to a new, bigger location.   Bern, Switzerland This is where I live (or nearby at least). Due to the pandemic, we spent more time in this beautiful city and in its surroundings in 2020 than ever before.   Gstaad, Switzerland My family has a beautiful […]
