After I had scaled down my traveling a little and spent the first few months of 2017 in Switzerland (and thus, by the way, successfully fulfilled one of my New Year’s resolutions), in mid-April it was time for a little road trip. Seraina got some days off over the Easter weekend and my parents let us use their car so we decided to spend a long weekend in France. Our first lunch stop was Annecy, a beautiful small city not far from the Swiss border. After a great meal and a walk through the old part of the city, we slowly (Easter traffic) but steadily made our way towards Grenoble, where we had an amazing dinner (Restaurant Le Seize) and spent the night. The next stop was Avignon, a most lovely city in the very west of the Provence region. We had booked a wonderful apartment through Airbnb with a very nice and helpful host. We stayed for two nights, though it felt longer, and enjoyed this beautiful place, the sun, the French cuisine, and a lot of delicious wine – and endured the Mistral. Leaving wasn’t easy, but we had one more night to spend in France before heading back home, which was spent in Dargoire, a tiny little village where we had found an apartment located in the wall of a castle. We had a very pleasant stay there with an improvised but nice meal. Though it was only a few days and we very visiting quite a lot of places within a short period of time, we both enjoyed this trip so much after we’d been very busy with work for a few weeks.
